Ngantri Mas

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Tunemoney Experiences

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

I have my tunemoney card around June 2009. It was an easy procedure, just make an account at tunemoney website. Reload with a minimum of RM 50, and wait for a week. Please select FPX for transaction. It is easier, faster, and cheaper. Only 50 cents per reload and the process only takes less than 5 minutes.

The card will come next to your door, any door after one week. It could be your home, your office, or your hang out place. It depends on the information you provide when you create the account.

When the card comes, activate it by using your account at tunemoney website. When the card is activated, your tunemoney balance will be deducted nearly RM 10. This is a yearly subscription fee. But this one even lower than my CIMB ATM card fee, RM 12 / year.

After you active the card, you can directly use it for almost anything related to money. Shopping with Visa Merchant or even Online shopping. You can even withdraw money from ATM, but wait for your PIN, about one week after activation. Withdrawing money from CIMB ATM only charged RM1.15. Your money will be deducted around RM 10, but the RM 8.85 will return to your card balance after a week.

My first usage was to book a hotel room online. The hotel rates was about RM 300 and I only have to pay 10%. With around RM 50 in my tunemoney, the process was very smooth. Use this card just like a Visa Credit Card. After the booking process was confirmed, my balance only had RM 20 left. It’s OK. At the hotel I pay the remaining rates by cash. Anyway, that online booking saved about RM 180 from promotional rates or about RM 300 from normal rates.

The second time, I used tunemoney card to book e-ticket for KTMB. A minimum RM 20 purchase is required by KTMB and I had to reload my tunemoney by using FPX. No problem at all. The tickets were purchased and my tunemoney balance was deducted.

But before I use the ticket, I decided to cancel the ticket. So I went to nearest station to cancel them. No problem at all, because the ticket was refunded but I had to wait 30 days for my money in tunemoney. It appeared in my balance about two weeks ago.

The third time, I wanted to book another hotel. And here was the problem. My reload process in CIMB and FPX were fine. I received receipts from both parties. I save it (print it by using pdfcreator) so if there is something wrong with the process I can use it. And the problem was there. After receiving the receipts from CIMB and FPX, tunemoney website presented an error on transaction. My tunemoney balance was not updated while my CIMB balance was already deducted. So I directly reported this error to 3 parties, CIMB, FPX, and tunemoney.

It was friday evening, so I expected to have the response on Monday. Monday, CIMB and FPX contacted me and said they would take a look at the banking process. Tuesday tunemoney contacted me and in the evening my balance was updated with the reload. Directly, I used it for hotel booking.

I use the customer service contact number to ask several question about my balance. Especially with historical transaction. It seems that the transaction history is not realtime. So I was surprised when I see my balance was reduced and there was no information on what kind of transaction that used the money. Easy call, only call 03 2179 7333 from any handphone inside Malaysia. Please be prepared with your card number and also your username on tunemoney website. It took about 5 minutes call to confirm the balance, that’s all.

So whenever you get a problem with reload or transaction, just save the receipt/error message  in electronic format and send the file to their e-mail, assist@tunemoney.com . My last problem on reload was cleared less then one minute by using this procedure.

This card makes live easier, especially for me. I am not eligible to any Credit Card in Malaysia, but it doesn’t mean I don’t have money. So now, I can use my money easily for any transaction even overseas with this card. My friends also use this card to book Airasia, hotels, and public transportation.

Perjuangan Awal Puasa

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Udah gede koq.

Artinya ngga bisa injury time lagi.

Terus puasanya memang cukup berat.

He he he, no hurt feeling ya yang dari Mesin.

Tapi saya gembira sekali.

Memang benar, dulu gaji PNS pas-pasan (emang sekarang udah berlebihan ya?).

Nah lho, menggiurkan ga tuh? Itu untuk pekerjaan sekelas tukang bangunan.

Kerjaannya gampang saja. Membetulkan saluran air yang mampet, dapat RM 80. Padahal kerjanya cuma 2 jam selesai.

Jadi disudahi saja dulu. Wassalam

Visit Singapore Through Malaysia

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

I went to Singapore once with my family, June 2009. But I didn’t stay in Singapore. I stayed in Johor Baru, one of Malaysian big cities near Singapore.

From my place in Perak, I used train to get to Johor Baru. Actually there is a regular train that serve daily journey from Ipoh to Johor (also to Singapore), but the time is not right. This train departs from Ipoh around 11 am and arrives in Johor at 8 pm (Singapore 10 pm). It is not a right time to find any place or walking around, especially when you bring your family.

So, by checking the train schedule from KTMB, I found shuttle train from Ipoh to KL early in the morning and a train from KL to Johor (also to Singapore) that departs at 8.30 am. The time was just right, I arrived at Johor Baru Train Station around 2 pm. If you haven’t book any hotel, this is just a right time to look for your hotel. Anyway, some people said that Johor is not quite save, especially at night. So I made the right decision :)

I already booked a hotel room for my family. Sometimes if you check the official web site of a hotel, you can get a good bargain. This time I took a family holiday package from a 5 star hotel, The Puteri Pacific Hotel. The price was good, comparably cheap with apartments in Singapore. For a comparison, you can have an apartment for two person in Lucky Plaza Singapore for S$ 80/night (2 person). I got RM 260/day for my family (2 adults, 3 children) in a suite. That’s roughly almost the same price if you count the kids for the apartment. So why bother a small apartment room if you can get a big deluxe room?

Any way, you can go to Singapore early in the morning since the intercountry bus is operating from 6 am to 11 pm. As soon as we finished our breakfast, we went to Singapore by bus. We have to alight twice, for Malaysian Immigration and Singaporean Immigration. Don’t forget to fill the white card :) . You can go by train too, but this train only operating early in the morning, around 5 am.

If you don’t have any problem, you can get to Singapore only in 30 to 60 minutes. Unfortunately, I had a problem. I don’t know what kind of problem because the officers didn’t do or ask any strange questions. Any way, it took 1.5 hours for us to get to the first bus station, the Kranji Bus Station which is also an MRT station.

From this station, actually I can go to Singapore Zoo by MRT and Bus, but according to gothere guideline, a taxi will cost a little bit higher for the four of us. So we took a taxi to the Zoo, faster and you don’t have to walk a lot.

The zoo is not a large zoo, but nicely arranged for walker. Don’t take a tram, because it is not worth it. Just take a walk, and you can see the animal collection. If you take the tram, you won’t be able to see the collection clearly. Most of the collection requires you to walk to the cage and see the animal, not from the tram.

My children only enjoyed the children facility, such as water park which is availabe for free. We spent our time mostly on the kidz zone, not seeing the animals :) . Anyway, you can spend as much as time you can for the Zoo, but roughly 2 hours is enough to see all the collection.

After we finished, we went to Singapore Science Center by Taxi. It is quite far from the zoo. The place has so many attraction such as theater and some science exhibition counters. The one I don’t like from this place is the counters are separated in parallel.  If we don’t know where to go, we might miss some of the exhibition.

From science center we went to Jurong East MRT by taxi and continue the journey to Bugis Street for souvenirs. You can find cheap souvenirs here, especially the middle shop. Indonesian likes to shop souvenirs :) , so this place is not to miss.

After some souvenirs shopping, we went to Merlion Park by taxi. Unfortunately, it was already pass working hour. The taxi charged a surcharge that cost me more than the taxi fee itself. Anyway, we only took some pictures with the Merlion background and ready to go to the busiest part of Singapore (Maybe :) ), The Orchard Road.

Not much to see in Orchard Road, since Department Store are all the same in Singapore or Malaysia or even in Indonesia. So we just took a little walk and luckily found Indonesian food corner at the Lucky Plaza.

Don’t worry about transportation, as long as you can manage the time before 11 pm, you can still find public transportation, including the one to Malaysia. So if you still want to go to Sentosa Island to see Song of The Sea, you still have time.

We arrived at our hotel around 11 pm with so many places already visited in Singapore. So, it is enough for us to get around Singapore in one day.

Tips:

  • Prepare for small money if you want to take buses, they don’t provide change.
  • Use taxi if you have more than 3 person
  • Please check the route by using gothere.sg

Have a nice trip to Singapore !! :) :) :)

Gaming Dream

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

I remember, when I was 7 year old. My neighbor had this kind of thing, a gaming console named Atari with its shooting game attracted my attention. Since then I always take a peek on that house, just to watch some one playing the game console and hopefully ask me to play too.

After the Atari era, Nintendo came with its game gadget such as famicom with its super famous Super Mario Bros. This time, without purchasing any of gaming gadget or game console, I can play whenever I want. There were game console rentals available around my neighborhood. I just have to pay 100 rupiah (about 5 cent) to play the game until my played character is dead. Depending on how good you play the game, you can play in only one minute or in one hour with that much of money :) . My favorite game was of course Super Mario Bros and Pacman.

When I was teenager until my college time, game console was not on my attention. I thought game console only for kids, because the rental always full of kids. It would embarrass me if I go to the rental place to play a game. So the alternative was to go to gaming park in supermarket or mall. With the same amount of money, I could play ding dong for different kind of games. The favorite game was Street Fighter.

And then, came the computer game era. I still remember, the famous game was Mortal Combat. But computer games was cool. Better graphics and better sound. You can not compare game console with this one. Technology gap was so wide and also the kind of game you can play is totally different. I got Doom and Warcraft to play 7 long day hehehe.

Game console producers aware about this one, and now you can see that game console is as high tech as the computer. The same processor, video card, sound card, event you can have internet connection with game console. You can check about one of the game consoles, Sony Play Station 3. It’s crazy man, even my computer is not as good as this one.The other game consoles are rocks too. You can see the competition of PS3, XBOX 360, and Wii in internet.

It is not like the old game console, now you can have different kind of game to choose with realistic graphic or even 3D. The old day, you can have hundreds of game in one memory card. Nowaday, even 1 DVD can not fit one game hehehe. You can check the games through this site for PS 3. Some game publishers create the same game for different game console, but some games are only available for specific game console.

In the old game console, you can only play with the game stick. The most advanced accessories was only a pistol that can be connected to the console. But now, even you can have a dance mat, drum imitation, guitar, as your console accessories. Wow, that is a lot. Even a normal computer can not do that. You can check it your self about the console accessories.

So now, you can spend hundreds of dollar for the gaming console, hundreds for the games, hundreds for the accessories, and hours of your time to play it. :) . Thank God I don’t have one. Even this my humble computer I already spent much of time with gaming hehehehe. But I am still dreaming to have one of them :)

Things to Do in KL

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Writing in English? Why not? He he he, after a long long time this is my first attempt to write another English post in School of Universe. Just a rewrite of my previous post in Bahasa Indonesia. It is about my journey in KL with my family.

The first thing you have in mind before you come to Malaysia probably is this: PETRONAS TWIN TOWER. Yes, this is one thing that if you put into your photograph people most likely already know that you are in Malaysia. The same thing goes with Merlion in Singapore, Eiffel Tower in France, or Liberty Statue in USA.

To get to Petronas Twin Tower from Airport is easy. Upon arriving at the airport, you just have to take a feeder bus or rent a car to get to KL. Feeder bus will take you to KL Sentral. This is the biggest train station in KL, with commuter, LRT, and intercity train available.

Feeder bus cost you only a little money. RM 8 to RM 9 ticket fare is available, depending on the bus. Even Star Shuttle bus can take you to places like hotel for only a small additional fare (RM 12 to get to any hotel in KL). It is per person fare. Rented car or taxi is available for more than RM 80.

When you are in KL, you have to decide where to stay. If you go on a budget, you can either take Petaling Street or near KL Sentral for you stay. Both places offer budget hotels or even dormitory style hostels.

If you plan to visit other places by train, such as Singapore, Thailand, or even other Peninsula places of attraction, it is better for you to stay near KL Sentral. Even other places in KL such as Petronas Twin Tower or Genting Highland public transportation is reachable from KL Sentral.

If you stay in Petaling Street, you can get to puduraya bus station by walking. This is convenient if you plan to go to other places in Malaysia by bus. For example, if you want to go to Melacca so puduraya is the only place to visit since you only can take bus to Melacca from here. You can go around KL if you buy a rapidKL bus ticket only for RM 2 per day. It means that you can re use the ticket as long as the journey is on the same day.

Petaling Street itself is a shopping destination for most tourists. You can buy cheap souvenirs here such as key chain, t shirt, or even imitation bags. A beer corner is also available for European tourists.

Back to Petronas Twin Tower. At least there are 5 things you can do near Petronas Twin Tower. The first one of course, taking pictures of you with the twin tower as the background. The second on is taking a walk around the KLCC park which is considered as a very save place for foreigner. The third one is to see the water laser attraction at the park or you can even take your children to a public swimming poo. The forth one is to visit Petrosains and Dinotrek2. The fifth one is to visit the Petronas Sky Bridge.

KLCC Park from Petronas Sky Bridge

The hardest thing to do is probably to visit Petronas Sky Bridge. You have to ask for free ticket to visit this one. Since it is a free ticket, don’t expect you will get one if you come late. Most smart visitor will come early in the morning even before the ticket counter open. When I came near 8 am, I only managed to get ticket for 4 pm shift. So if you want to get morning shift tickets, please come before 8 am.

Every shift can only take around 20 people. That includes children and babies. So you have to ask a ticket for your baby too. One person can ask for a maximum of 5 tickets.

One shift will take about 20 minutes to finish. That includes a short film before you enter the lift that will take you to level 41 in 41 seconds. There is a guide that will explain the history of Petronas Twin Tower and guide you through the 20 minutes journey.

Petronas Sky Bridge Interior

Other places you might be interested in when you are in KL probably KL Tower, the Royal Palace and Putrajaya. The last two are not accessible by public transportation. But if you insist to go there, you can join a short tour that will cost you more than RM 100 per person. If you can arrange a private tour with your friend, may be it is cheaper to rent a car to take you there. As for the guidance you can join other tourist for some explanation from their guide :) .

If you are not a backpacker or if you prefer a higher class of hotel you can consider The Zon Hotel as your place to stay. If you bring family, you can have a 2 bedrooms suites for a cheap price. Please go to the official hotel website for reservation, it is cheaper than any travel agent’s offers.

There you can have a family room, dining room, and a basic kitchen with a lot of kitchen utensil that can fulfill your needs. Below are some pictures when I stayed there.

So, have a nice trip to KL :) .
